ACCESS TO SPANISH PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

The conditions for entry to Spanish universities for students of Sage College are aligned with those applying from other educational institutions, such as those who have obtained their ‘título de Bachiller’ (Baccalaureate Diploma), as outlined in Article 37 of the Organic Law of Education.

Access to Spanish universities (both public and private) via the British Baccalaureate “A-levels” is assured under the agreement “Acceso UE y países con convenio bilateral” for European Union students and those from countries with bilateral agreements with Spain.

The entry process for Spanish universities establishes an equivalency, determined by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), between grades in the Spanish system (numeric) and A-level grades (alphabetic). This alignment is in accordance with the documentation issued by the Spanish Open University UNED, ‘Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia’, which oversees university access for EU students and those from countries with bilateral agreements with Spain. These documents serve as a ‘passport’ for pre-enrollment and subsequent application to the desired Spanish university. For detailed steps, please refer to: link

How to Calculate Access Grades for Spanish Universities through A-Levels?

To begin, students must pass at least 5 GCSE subjects as a prerequisite. GCSEs do not accrue points; only A-levels and AS-levels do. The minimum requirement is 3 A-levels, while the maximum is 4. Grades achieved are converted into UCAS points (refer to Table 1 below), which are then further converted into a grade for accessing Spanish universities, based on a scale of 0 to 10 points. These points equate to the Spanish A-level system known as Bachillerato and are referred to as the ‘General Phase’.

Once grades have been converted, students with grades higher than 5 are eligible to apply to Spanish universities. For private universities, students should directly contact the respective institutions to inquire about specific entry requirements, ensuring they possess the UNED conversion credential.

The convalidation process can be initiated through the following link: Convalidation Process. The necessary documentation can be accessed via the following link and should be submitted to any affiliated UNED center: Documentation Required.

UNIVERSITY (PCE) ADMISSIONS

Specific phase exams (Pruebas de competencias específicas, PCEs) For students needing to obtain between 10 and 14 points for their desired degree, a second round of exams (fase específica) is available. These exams are conducted annually at the end of May or the beginning of June, and also in September at UNED centers. Each student can take up to 4 exams in the specific phase, with only the two highest marks being considered. UNED offers the following subjects in the specific exam phase: Offered Subjects.
